We have many fabulous young people attending to help run AJ2025.  These are our Venturer Service Leaders, who will be filling roles alongside our Adult Leaders across all aspects of the Jamboree.  

If you're a Venturer Service Leader, thank you!  And read on....

You'll be working in much the same way as the adult leaders, and will be treated the same in many respects - whilst recognising that you're not yet adults and hence there must be some differences.

Not all of this handbook will be relevant to you, but we recommend reading it all so that you get a feel for what's happening around you.

Camping

• You'll be camping in the Wook-Koo subcamp.  
• You need to bring your own personal gear, including sleeping gear & mess kit.
• You will also need a tent - your Contingent will let you know whether they will provide one for you, or you'll need to BYO.
• You don't need to cook your own meals - your meals will be prepared and served at the Eatery.

Units

• You will be assigned to a Unit, with people working on similar jobs to yourself.  For example, all of the Water Activities Venturers will be together.
• Each Unit will have an Adult Venturer Leader to mentor & guide you.  
• Units will camp together. 

Gathering Place

• The Wook-Koo Subcamp has a Gathering Place marquee, where you'll be able to hang out with the other Venturer Service Leaders.
• Note that the Wook-Koo Subcamp is for Venturer Service Leaders only - participants are not permitted to enter the Subcamp, or the Gathering Place.

Rostering & Days Off

• The Wook-Koo team will be rostering you for two days off during the Jamboree.
• Your allocated work team will be rostering your work days - what times you'll be working, which jobs you're assigned to, etc.

Activities

• At times you may be rostered to work in the evening, but otherwise you're able to attend the night entertainment.
• The Jamboree activities are for the participants, not for you, however the Program team are working hard to have some activities open 'after hours' for you to attend.
• On your Days off you'll be able to go into Maryborough on the Shuttle Bus, or enjoy one of the many Leader Tours on offer.  

Unit Management

• Venturer Service participants will be treated as young adults and have an amount of freedom and autonomy not available to Jamboree participants.
• The Unit Council will be the focal point for communication to the Venturers and Leaders, i.e., this is the conduit for communications from the Venturers up the Leadership Line and from Jamboree through the Leadership Line Team to Venturers.
• The Unit Council will be the Primary/First Port of Call to resolve matters which arise during the Jamboree. The day-to-day running of the Units will be a Unit Council priority, using the rosters and staff allocations as a primary reference.

Expectations

You'll be developing a Unit Code of Conduct.

To set the scene, here's a few things to think about in advance.

• Part of your role is to promote the Venturer Scout Section to Scouts, so set a good example.
• You may have mates that are attending AJ2025 as Participants.  They'll be camping in a different area, and completing different activities.  We want you to be friendly of course, just remember that there are some differences.  

Issue Resolution

• It is anticipated that most issues will be resolved via the Unit Council.
• Matters requiring escalation for resolution will be referred to the Line Leader for arbitration - or up the chain, depending on the seriousness of the matter.
• Typically, any matters relating to DADS (Drugs, Alcohol, Sex & Discrimination) will be escalated and the relevant home Contingent Leader will be involved. 
• Venturer Units will operate on a two-strike basis. Initially matters will be dealt with at the lowest possible level i.e. Unit Council. Escalation of the initial issue will still be a first strike. Repeating the issue or non-acceptance of the outcome will be deemed a second strike.
