Here, you’ll find clear explanations of commonly used terms, ensuring you can fully understand important information, instructions, and communications throughout the Jamboree. Activity Passport | A physical tool used by participants to record their progress and achievements in various activities throughout the Jamboree. |
Adventurous Activities | High-energy activities like abseiling, canoeing, climbing, or pioneering that are part of the AJ2025 program. |
Assistant Patrol Leader (APL) | A Scout who supports the Patrol Leader in leading and managing their patrol. See Patrol Leader below. |
Badge Clubs | Authorized groups at the Jamboree that focus on educational and historical aspects of badge collecting and swapping. |
Badge Swapping | A fun Jamboree tradition where participants exchange badges with Scouts from different contingents. |
Blue Card | A government-issued card in Queensland for people working with children, ensuring they meet the necessary child safety standards. |
Buddy System | A safety practice encouraging participants to stay in pairs or small groups during activities to ensure accountability and support. |
Closing Ceremony | The final event of the Jamboree, celebrating the achievements and experiences of the participants and marking the end of their journey. |
Contingent | A group of Scouts, Leaders, and volunteers from a specific state, territory, or international region attending the Jamboree. |
Contingent HQ | The central location for each Contingent on-site, where participants can seek support or meet with their leaders. |
Dillie bag | A dillie bag, also known as a plate bag, dilly bag or mess kit, is a fabric bag used by Scouts to store their personal eating utensils, including a plate, bowl, cup, and cutlery. It is designed to keep these items organised, clean, and easily transportable during meals at camps or events like AJ2025. Dillie bags are typically durable, easy to wash, and often include a drawstring closure for convenience. Should include their name visibly on the outside. |
Duty Patrol | A patrol assigned specific responsibilities for the day, such as meal preparation or campsite cleaning. See section 3.2 Duty Patrol. |
First Aid Post | A designated area on the Jamboree site where participants can receive assistance for minor injuries or illnesses. |
Friendship Flag | A symbolic flag handed over during Jamborees to represent the connection and unity of the Scouting movement. |
Help Desk | A self-service support system where participants can report issues, access FAQs, or request assistance. See section 10.6 Help Desk. |
Jamboree Store (or AJ2025 Shop) | The official store on-site, offering merchandise, badges, and other Scouting essentials. |
Offsite Activities | Pre-planned excursions to locations outside the Jamboree site, such as "Your Attraction," "Your Seaside," and "Your Sights," offering unique challenges and experiences. See section 7.4 Offsite Activities. |
Onsite Activities | Activities hosted within the Jamboree grounds that cater to a variety of interests, including adventurous, creative, and team-building experiences. See section 7.5 Onsite Activities. |
Opening Ceremony | The official event at the start of the Jamboree that welcomes all participants and sets the tone for the days ahead. |
Plate bag | See Dillie bag. |
Program Participant | Refers to Scouts and Venturer Scouts who have registered to attend and participate in the programed activities. |
Program Zone | Designated areas for different Jamboree activities, such as adventurous pursuits, STEM activities, or creative challenges. See section 7 for more information. |
SafeTrans | The directorate responsible for transportation, safety and emergency communication at the Jamboree. |
Service Leader | A Venturer Scout or Adult volunteer who provides essential support to ensure the smooth running of the Jamboree. |
STEM Activities | Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics-based activities designed to challenge and inspire participants with hands-on experiments and problem-solving. |
Subcamp | A smaller section of the overall Jamboree campsite where multiple Units are housed. See section 2.4 Subcamps. |
Subcamp Leader | A Leader responsible for overseeing the operation and support of a designated Subcamp within the Jamboree site. See section 2.4 Subcamps. |
Unit | A group of Scouts, Leaders, and youth participants who camp together and participate in activities as a team. |
Unit Council | A leadership group within a Unit, consisting of Patrol Leaders and their Leaders, who work together to plan and manage their Unit's activities. |
Venturer Scout Service Leader | A Venturer Scout who provides service and support during the Jamboree while participating in leadership and skill-building opportunities. |
