How do I wash my hands? To avoid getting sick, wash your hands properly. - Wet your hands with clean water.
- Apply enough soap to cover all surfaces of your hands.
- Rub your hands together for at least 20 seconds.
- Clean between your fingers and the backs of your hands.
- Clean dirty fingernails with a nail brush.
- Rinse both sides of your hands with clean water.
- Dry off your hands with a clean towel, paper towel or dry in the sun.
- Rub the sanitiser over your palms, the backs of the hands and in between your fingers. Keep rubbing until it is dry.

Washing your body - Shower everyday. This helps prevent infections and body lice.
- Wash well, especially under your armpits, feet & private parts.
- Keeping clean will remove bacteria that cause body odour (BO)

Foot Care Foot health is critical to mobility, balance, infection control and general wellbeing. Some of the most common conditions which we may see in our feet include - Cuts and abrasions – when wearing the wrong footwear for the conditions or activities
- Tinea Pedis – commonly referred to as ‘athletes’ foot’
- Blisters – caused by friction between the skin and inside of footwear
- Immersion Foot Syndrome – commonly referred to as ‘trench foot’.
All of these conditions are easily preventable. - Inspect your feet regularly
- Dry feet well when wet
- Wear clean socks daily & change socks when wet
- Wear in any new shoes before coming to AJ2025
- Put plasters on blisters as soon as they appear and inform your Unit leader
- Wear the correct shoes
- Allow your feet time to “breathe”
- Use a soapy washcloth to clean your body.
