Here's a few tips from Jamboree veterans to help you prepare for a fabulous Jamboree.

Get Yourself Organised

  • Don't leave your packing until the last minute.
  • Bring dirty clothes bags so you can keep your dirty & wet (& smelly) clothes out of the way.
  • Your Contingent or Line Leader has probably given you a packing list - use it!
  • Read this handbook!

Be Prepared

  • Practice washing up.  Your health & hygiene depends on the quality of your washup, and your free time depends on the efficiency of your washup!
  • Practice hand washing your dirty clothes.
  • Bring enough medication to last the duration.
  • Read emails & bulletins from your PL, Leaders & Contingent.
  • Bring some badges to swap with the people you meet.
  • Get lots of camping practice.
  • As BP said: Be Prepared.  Be prepared for what?  Why, for any old thing.

Look After Yourself & Your Mates

  • Your Jamboree campsite is home for nearly two weeks.  So it's really important to set up a top quality campsite right from the start!
  • Be sun smart.  Getting sunburnt hurts!
  • Stay hydrated - it's hard to have a great time with a headache!
  • Remember that others may get cranky when they're tired or things aren't going well - be supportive & give them space.  (And check, maybe it's you that's tired and irritable?).
  • A great Jamboree experience involves Fun and Work - so pull your weight and share the load.
  • Get organised early each day - know what you need & where to be, so you're in the right place, with the right gear, at the right time.
  • As BP said; The most worth-while thing is to try to put happiness into the lives of others.

Challenge Yourself

  • Give everything a go!
  • Teamwork makes the Dream Work.
  • Be respectful of others, particularly as you develop your new patrol and new Unit.
  • Be flexible - not everything will go your way, or to plan.
  • Be ready to make new Friends for Life!
  • As BP said: A Scout smiles and whistles under all circumstances.

Above all, remember the Scout Promise & Law!
