Here's a few tips from Jamboree veterans to help you prepare for a fabulous Jamboree.
These tips are not just for youth members! As BP said: There is no teaching to compare with example.
Get Yourself Organised
- Don't leave your packing until the last minute.
- Read this handbook!
Be Prepared
- Bring enough medication to last the duration.
- Read emails & bulletins from your Team Leader & Contingent.
- Bring some badges to swap with the people you meet.
- As BP said: Be Prepared. Be prepared for what? Why, for any old thing.
Look After Yourself & Your Mates
- Remember that others may get cranky when they're tired or things aren't going well - be supportive & give them space. (And check, maybe it's you that's tired and irritable?).
- As BP said; The most worth-while thing is to try to put happiness into the lives of others.
- Remember when prioritising the youth you also need to look after yourself, so that you can do it again tomorrow!
- If there's friction in your team, remember that we're all here for the same reason, and we've made the same Promise. As a wise man once said, "I don't like that person much.... I must get to know them better."
Challenge Yourself
- Teamwork makes the Dream Work.
- Be respectful of others, particularly as you develop your new team.
- Be flexible - not everything will go your way, or to plan.
- Be ready to make new Friends for Life!
- As BP said: A Scout smiles and whistles under all circumstances.
Mungomery Subcamp
- The Mungomery Subcamp will be home to a lot of people, and respect & cooperation will be critical.
- Please share tentage where possible to keep the m2/person to a minimum.
- No personal shade areas, etc., will be permitted – this is just a sleeping zone.
- Remember that some Leaders working irregular or lengthy shifts may be sleeping at any time.
Most importantly, remember why we are here - to support our youth members to enjoy the experience of a lifetime. Yes, it can be tough some times to remember that, that's why we wrote it in bold!
