SAFETY CHECKLIST

To be reviewed each day and after each change of gas bottle to any appliance:

  • Have all connection joints been tested with soapy water for gas leakages?
  • Is there a suitable fire extinguisher nearby in a visible & accessible position?
  • Do you have clear access to the gas cylinder valve to turn the gas supply off in an emergency?
  • Are supply hoses from cylinder to appliance in good condition (without kinks or abrasions)?
  • Do the hoses pose a trip hazard?
  • Do all appliances have a certification badge?
  • Are appliances secured against falling or tipping?
  • Are appliances clear of combustible/flammable materials (see recommended distances below)?
  • Are areas well-ventilated when using gas? (Ensure 2 sides are open to ensure cross breezes).
  • Are ring burners secured (or fixed) to a stable, non-combustible base?

Use these clearances as a guide to how far away to keep combustible materials from the roof of the structure (as recommended by the Qld Government)

  • BBQs 1350mm clearance above
  • Hotplates 1050mm clearance above
  • Deep Fryers & solid grill plates 600mm clearance above
  • All equipment - keep 250mm clear behind (500mm for plastic & canvas)
