MARKET DAY INFORMATION

for Unit Leaders and Patrol Leaders

OBJECTIVES

  1. Have fun and meet new people.
  2. Run a fantastic Unit Stall in your Subcamp.
  3. When it’s your turn, visit those Units on your BINGO card.

ACTIVITY DESCRIPTION

Market Day will run in two daytime sessions:

Morning:            0930 to 1130         Even-numbered Units running stalls and odd-numbered Units play BINGO.

Afternoon:         1400 to 1600           Odd-numbered Units running stalls and even-numbered Units play BINGO.

For half of the day your Unit will be running a stall.  For the other half of the day you will be visiting stalls around the site and crossing off the Units on your BINGO card. Each Patrol will receive a BINGO card. Complete either 5 across, 5 down or 5 diagonally on your card.

Units need to find a unique way to mark off their visitors' BINGO cards.

A Market Day mall area may be established in each Subcamp, with space allocated to each Unit before the start of the activity. Each Unit will set up their stall ready to start at the beginning of their allocated session time. Stalls can also be set up along roads and tracks to be accessible by our Youth and Visitors.

BINGO cards will be distributed from the Subcamp to each Unit ready for Market Day.

Market Day is during Future Scout Day so we will have lots of visitors.  Joeys & Cubs will have their own special BINGO cards so they can join in too.

ACTIVITY CLOSE – CALL BINGO!

At the end of the activity, all the BINGO cards are to be dropped in to the Jamboree Program Office before 1800. There will be a prize for the first Patrol whose complete card is drawn out of the hat. The winners will be announced via the Jamboree News.

ACTIVITY RULES

If you follow the Scout Law & Promise you will be on the right track for an enjoyable Market Day.

There are a few additional items that we need to point out:

  1. Manage Risk appropriately by considering any risks and taking action to reduce or remove risk. To assist, please find a link to Scouts Risk Management system.  https://scouts.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/National-Risk-Management-Policy-August-2020.pdf
  2. This is a ‘no contact’ activity. So, stalls selling hugs (even free hugs), massages, etc. are not permitted.
  3. If you are selling food items:
    1. Do not sell food that includes nuts of any type
    2. Know what the ingredients are so you can inform your customers about allergies.
    3. Follow good hygiene practices at all times.

WHAT CAN WE DO FOR OUR STALL?

Provided you stick within the rules, the sky is the limit!  We’ve seen all sorts of Market Day stalls over the years – food sales, paper plane competitions, carnival games, trick bicycles, braided woggles, face painting, etc.

If you need to purchase materials (i.e. use real money) for your Market Day stall, you’ll need to organise this in advance of the Jamboree with your Unit Leaders.
