Here's a few tips from Jamboree veterans to help you prepare for a fabulous Jamboree.
These tips are not just for youth members! As BP said: There is no teaching to compare with example.
Get Yourself Organised
Don't leave your packing until the last minute.
Read this handbook!
Be Prepared
Bring enough medication to last the duration.
Read emails & bulletins from your Team Leader & Contingent.
Bring some badges to swap with the people you meet.
As BP said: Be Prepared. Be prepared for what? Why, for any old thing.
Look After Yourself & Your Mates
Remember that others may get cranky when they're tired or things aren't going well - be supportive & give them space. (And check, maybe it's you that's tired and irritable?).
As BP said; The most worth-while thing is to try to put happiness into the lives of others.
Remember when prioritising the youth you also need to look after yourself, so that you can do it again tomorrow!
If there's friction in your team, remember that we're all here for the same reason, and we've made the same Promise. As a wise man once said, "I don't like that person much.... I must get to know them better."
Challenge Yourself
Teamwork makes the Dream Work.
Be respectful of others, particularly as you develop your new team.
Be flexible - not everything will go your way, or to plan.
Be ready to make new Friends for Life!
As BP said: A Scout smiles and whistles under all circumstances.
Mungomery Subcamp
The Mungomery Subcamp will be home to a lot of people, and respect & cooperation will be critical.
Please share tentage where possible to keep the m2/person to a minimum.
No personal shade areas, etc., will be permitted – this is just a sleeping zone.
Remember that some Leaders working irregular or lengthy shifts may be sleeping at any time.
Most importantly, remember why we are here - to support our youth members to enjoy the experience of a lifetime. Yes, it can be tough some times to remember that, that's why we wrote it in bold!
